Fun Panoramic Photos – Photo(s) for Nov. 19

Here is a couple other unusual panoramic photos. These are from a small Sony camera I have that has a panoramic setting. Sometimes I just play with this interesting feature.

The above photo I took as I walked down a trail in the woods with the camera set on the panoramic mode. Below, it is fun to take photo of movement as you pan, in this case one of the horses creates a second head as he moves side to side.

Spinner Camera First Go Around – Photo for Nov. 18

This little camera I think will be a lot of fun and wanted to share a couple of the first photos I took with it.

You have to work a little on technique, watch you hand, your hat and make sure you get it to go all the way around.

This photo of Shrimp Boats in Brunswick, Ga shows actually a little over 360 degrees. Still have to work on composition…

Sonny, Hagerstown, MD – Photo for Nov. 16

Sonny Barnes was, according to my conversation with him, a WW II veteran with the 82nd Airborne. When I met him and took this photo, he apparently was sleeping in an old passenger car in downtown Hagerstown, Maryland. This was in 1970. I often wonder what happened to Sonny. Will post more photos of Sonny someday when I rescan this series of negatives and clean them up a bit.

East Broad Top RR, Box Camera Photo – Photo for Nov. 15

Interesting photographs do not have to come from complex and expensive camera systems. For fun I occasionally go out and shot a roll of film in an old camera such as a simple box camera. The photo below was taken with a Vagabond 120 made by United States Camera Company. I did minor editing of photo and added a sepia tone.

Hearse at Harpers Ferry, No. 1 – Photo for Nov. 14

This photo was taken in May of 1970 in Harpers Ferry, WV. This horse drawn hearse was in the back yard of a house neighboring the National Park there. I made inquires of the Park Service a few years ago about the hearse and they have no records that if ever belonged to them. I have a series of photos of this subject and will post more at some time.

Neutra’s Gettysburg Cyclorama – Spring 2011 – Photo(s) for Nov. 13

As you can see from my post yesterday, I have enjoyed photographing the Gettysburg Cyclorama. Today I am doing something a little different. Instead of one photo, I am doing a slide show of the photos taken at the same time as the one posted yesterday. I was concentrating on details during this visit, which unfortunately was very short, about an hour. The reflections, windows and shutters all seemed to draw me in on a late afternoon with grey skies. These were taken in color and converted to black and white with a slight toning added. The slide show is produced using oQey plugin for WordPress.

Gettysburg Cyclorama, Window Reflection No. 1 – Photo for Nov. 12

I have always felt a special connection with Richard Neutra’s, Gettysburg Cyclorama Building. I visited many times during the nearly 50 years it was open. I have viewed the battlefield from its observation platform, bought books in its bookstore, used the upstairs lobby to study photographs with friends and work on photographic equipment and did view the Gettysburg Cyclorama, which was the central purpose of the building. Today, this architecturally significant structure is deserted and the National Park Service wants to demolish it. I have been photographing the building whenever I am in the area. This photo was taken last March. I intend to post more of these photos.
